On Wednesday March 29, our Chartered and Incorporated Engineers along with other experienced members of the Chartership community gathered to successfully conclude the first round of our overall training.
Proceeding our penultimate session where we discussed the essential elements and approach of the Chartership assessment process. We decided to take the opportunity and use this final training session to discuss Continued Professional Development as well as what is expected of a mentor and how this role should be approached.
One of the main areas which we addressed was the key aspects of being a mentor within the Chartership Structure. There were different roleplay activities and group discussions within this session where we deliberated on how to correctly probe a candidate on their own personal strategy and experiences. From this we discussed the importance of then allowing a potential candidate to reflect on these experiences and draw their own opinions from them. This was an interactive and productive session where our current members were able to get a better understanding of how to approach being a mentor and how to use their own knowledge to guide a candidate through the learning process.
Our first round of training has been an overall success and it was great to bring members of the Chartership community together and really involve them in understanding what the expected standard of an Incorporated and Chartered Engineer. We very much look forward to everyone’s continued involvement and arranging annual sessions similar to this in future.
