On 26 June 2020 David Loosley, the Chief executive of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEst) and Bart Struwe, interim Chief Executive of KIVI signed a cooperative agreement for joint membership. This agreement, which is endorsed by the Royal Dutch Marine, is the result of a pilot in combination with the new structure of peer review and Chartered Engineering not only for, but also by Chartered Engineers. The goal of this collaboration is that more Engineers of the Dutch Marine will become a Chartered Engineer of KIVI.
